New Acland - Community Relationships
New Hope engages in extensive community consultation to discuss current and proposed operations. We are committed to being part of the local community, working closely with our neighbours to address potential issues. New Acland actively recruits from the local area and works diligently with the local community to make employment family friendly. Priority is placed on local employment, including the use of local suppliers and contractors. Of the 300 people directly employed at the mine, more than 80 percent live locally. A significant apprenticeship, traineeship and work experience program creates further work opportunities for local people.
Community Reference Group
The New Acland Community Reference Group (CRG) ensures that opportunities and issues associated with the current and future New Acland operations are understood and properly considered. The CRG comprises representatives from a broad cross section of local interests, including health, education, business, agriculture, community development, landowners and industry.
New Hope Community Information Centre
New Acland's dedicated Community Liaison Officer, based at our Community Information Centre in the main street of Oakey, is available to community members to provide information and support. Neighbours of New Acland have access directly to senior site employees via a 24 hour dedicated telephone number should they have any issues that require immediate attention.
Community Sponsorship and Donations Program
Through our generous Community Sponsorship and Donation Program, we provide in excess of $650,000 each year to help support local community and sporting groups, volunteer organisations, schools and individuals. In the 2011-12 financial year alone, more than 60 not-for-profit organisations in the Darlng Downs region were supported through this program.
A substantial Community Investment Fund will further enable the Darling Downs community to directly take part in decisions to fund larger community development projects.
New Hope is proudly a major supporter of the Careflight Rescue Helicopter service which saves lives right across Southern Queensland.
