Neighbours, staff and families get together to celebrate 10 years at New Acland

About 500 visitors enjoyed the warm weather and activities at the New Acland mine’s 10-year celebration day on Saturday, October 6.
Many visitors were openly impressed by the mine
Residents living near the mine, staff members and their families soaked up the sunshine and enjoyed the carnival atmosphere at New Acland
Displays included a haul truck and a wheel loader, rides and a jumping castle for the kids, various competitions, plus informative displays and site tours of the mine’s operations and rehabilitation programs.
The CareFlight helicopter also delivered an early Christmas treat for the kids - Santa Claus - who handed out bags of New Hope goodies.
New Acland General Manager Jim Randell said many of the visitors were openly impressed with the amount of work the mine puts into many projects.
“The 10-year celebration day was a great event in itself but it also helped many visitors to better understand all of the work we do here at New Acland,” he said.
“Many people may just think of New Acland as merely a coal mine but this celebration day helped to show visitors that we are more than a mining operation.
“While obviously the mining part of our operations is important, we were also able to display some of the other great work our people do every day here at New Acland in areas like safety, maintenance, business improvement plus environmental and pastoral projects just to name a few.”
New Hope Group Chief Operating Officer Bruce Denney said the neighbours and family day was a fitting way to celebrate 10 years of operations at New Acland.
“We have 36 employees who have been at New Acland since day one and this is more than 10 per cent of our total staff numbers here,” he said.
“The fact that such a large contingent of our staff have been so committed to working at New Acland for the long term is a strong tribute to the type of workplace and teamwork that we have here at New Acland.
“Some of these long-term staff members have worked for the New Hope Group for many more years and are also members of our growing 25-Year Club.
“I would like to thank everyone at New Acland for their ongoing dedication and professionalism. Celebrations like this also help to show how proud we all are of this operation and its many and varied projects.”
