Background info

Andrew and his wife Libby, a school teacher in Toowoomba, have six children and also run a small cattle property at Felton.

Outside of work, Andrew splits his time between running his farm and acting as the Auxiliary Lieutenant of the Pittsworth Fire Station.

Andrew has spent the last 20 years volunteering with Queensland Fire and Emergency Services and said it is a rewarding way for him to give back to the local community.

New Acland Mine has a strong safety culture and supports Andrew’s role with Pittsworth Fire Station, enabling him to respond to emergencies 24/7 and supporting him to properly manage fatigue after call-outs.

Andrew’s lengthy experience as a first responder saw him become a founding member of New Acland’s Emergency Response Team (ERT) in 2010 and act as team captain during the ERT’s first time competing at the Queensland Mines Rescue Competition in 2011.
