Lock The Gate continues its dishonest misinformation
8 August 2017
Lock The Gate Alliance’s most recent claims about exploration permits including the "New Hope Group of companies hold coal exploration licences covering 163,360 hectares of farmland on the Darling Downs near Toowoomba" just further discredits the organisation.i
Their claims are completely inaccurate and appear to be based on outdated information.
It is yet another example of how the organisation irresponsibly peddles inaccurate misinformation without fact checking in an attempt to scare rural communities.
New Hope Group (NHG) commenced a Tenure Relinquishment Program of its Exploration Permit for Coal (EPC) tenures in 2014.
Since then a total of almost 175,000 hectares has been relinquished.
A further 92,700 hectares is in the process of being relinquished.
NHG has not applied for any new EPCs on the Darling Downs area in over 10 years.
At the end of the relinquishment program (expected late 2017/early 2018) NHG will hold a total of just three EPC tenures covering just 18,003 hectares in immediate proximity to and surrounding current mining activities.
It is disappointing that Lock The Gate’s Mr Humphries continues to attack New Acland with misinformation given he didn’t raise any concerns nor seek to check this information when the Company hosted him and his colleague Greg Poultney on a site visit to the New Acland mine last year to inspect the mine’s progressive rehabilitation program.
